Angola is located on the west coast of Africa. Its main territory borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north and northeast, Zambia to the east, Namibia to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. It covers an area of about 1.246 million square kilometers and has a population of about 30.175 million.

Angola has rich oil, natural gas and mineral resources, with proven recoverable oil reserves of more than 12.6 billion barrels and natural gas reserves of 7 trillion cubic meters. The main minerals are diamonds, iron, phosphates, copper, manganese, uranium, lead, tin, zinc, tungsten, gold, quartz, marble and granite. The country also has rich water power and agricultural, animal husbandry and fishery resources.

The oil and diamond mining industry is the mainstay of Angola's national economy. Angola produces about 600 million barrels of oil annually, making it the second largest oil producer in Africa. With diamond reserves of about 180 million carats, it is the fifth largest diamond producer in the world. Other major industries include cement, building materials, vehicle assembly and repair, textiles and clothing, food and aquatic product processing.

China and Angola established diplomatic relations in 1983. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the relationship between the two countries has developed steadily. In 2010, China and Angola established a strategic partnership. Angola is currently China's second largest trading partner in Africa. In 2018, the bilateral trade volume was US$28.053 billion. China mainly imports crude oil and natural gas from Angola, and exports mechanical and electrical, steel, automobiles and high-tech products to Angola.
