Mozambique is located in southeastern Africa, bordering the Indian Ocean to the east. It covers an area of about 799,000 square kilometers and has a population of about 28 million.
Mozambique's agricultural output accounts for 25% of its total GDP, with cashews, cotton, sugar and sisal being the main export agricultural products. The fishery resources have great development potential, with a potential catch of 2 million tons. It is rich in mineral resources, including coal, iron, copper, gold, tantalum, titanium, bismuth, aluminum, asbestos, graphite, mica, marble and natural gas, among which coal reserves exceed 32 billion tons, titanium more than 6 million tons, and tantalum reserves rank first in the world, about 7.5 million tons. India, the Netherlands, South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Poland, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and other countries are the main export destinations of Mozambique.
China and Mozambique established diplomatic relations in 1975. In 2016, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Mozambique, the relationship between the two countries has developed smoothly, and trade agreements and investment protection agreements have been signed. In 2018, the bilateral trade volume reached US$2.495 billion. China mainly exports electromechanical products, steel, clothing and footwear to Mozambique, and mainly imports wood, mineral sand, agricultural products, etc. from Mozambique.
